Dental Bridge
Simply put, a dental bridge "bridges the gap" caused by one or more missing teeth and placing a dental bridge can prevent a chain reaction of problems that could affect your entire mouth. The purpose of a dental bridge, which can be placed at our Calgary clinic, is to:
- Restore your smile
- Improve your ability to chew and speak
- Maintain the shape of your face
- Properly distribute the force in your bite
- Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
There are three main types of dental bridges, which all employ a pontic (artificial tooth) to replace a missing tooth:
- A traditional dental bridge consists of a porcelain crown on either side of a pontic, with the crowns being permanently cemented to anchoring teeth on either side of the gap. The anchoring teeth can either be natural or dental implants.
- A Maryland dental bridge, which is also referred to as a Maryland bonded bridge or resin-bonded bridge, is comprised of a pontic with metal wings bonded to it and extending out on either side. When the Maryland dental bridge is placed, these wings are bonded to the adjacent teeth to fill the gap.
- A cantilever dental bridge is used when there are only adjacent teeth on one side of the missing tooth
Each of these dental bridge solutions varies in its advantages and disadvantages, as well as the cost of the dental bridge. For more information, or to book an appointment, please contact our Calgary clinic.
Dental Bridge Care
At our Calgary dental clinic, we can place your dental bridge and also help you care for it. Most importantly, the success of a dental bridge depends on the health of the adjacent teeth and gums, so it is important that your remaining teeth are kept healthy and strong. This can be achieved with regular and proper brushing and flossing, a regular dental cleaning schedule, and maintaining proper nutrition and a balanced diet.
We look forward to seeing you for a dental bridge.
It's easy to book an appointment online, or by phone.
