Common Questions about Porcelain Veneers

Can anyone get porcelain veneers?

The majority of people are good candidates for porcelain veneers, but there are a few requirements that we will examine and discuss with you:

  • You must have healthy gums and be free of gum disease
  • You must be in good oral health
  • Your bite must be carefully assessed to ensure the longevity of your veneers

If you are not a good candidate for porcelain veneers, Dr. Wasik will discuss alternative treatments for your cosmetic dental needs.

Are porcelain veneers always the best option?

No, depending on your circumstances you may have several options for correcting your teeth or smile. For instance, dental bonding may be recommended for a minor chipped tooth, and orthodontics may be required if your teeth are too crooked for treatment with porcelain veneers. Composite artistry, a specialized form of dental bonding, may also offer the benefits of a new enhanced smile.

Will porcelain veneers help whiten my teeth?

Absolutely! Porcelain veneers are overall the most effective solution for teeth whitening, and are sometimes the only solution for particular conditions (e.g. tetracycline staining) where Zoom Teeth Whitening can’t offer the same results. However, porcelain veneers can be used in conjunction with Zoom and the two are commonly paired, often with a laser gum lift as well, to give you the most brilliant results.

If you are having porcelain veneers placed to correct other issues with your teeth, Dr. Wasik will also take the colour of your teeth into consideration and will use precise colour selection to ensure you have the best smile possible.

Is it painful to have porcelain veneers placed?

No. Local anesthetics are used when your teeth are shaped and prepared for your veneers, as well as when they’re placed, but Dr. Wasik does his best to ensure a comfortable experience with the needles and throughout the full treatment.
